This chapter discusses the fading prestige of Abraham Lincoln during the second half the twentieth century. Though research and surveys show Lincoln is still considered as one of the greatest Americans, benign ridicule of him started during this period. The chapter suggests that the diminution of Lincoln may be attributed to the civil rights movement's reshaping of his reputation.
